노트북 하나만 줄곧 사용하다가 얼마전 서브 노트북으로 넷북을 하나 장만했습니다. 그러다 스마트폰까지 사용하게 되었죠.(사실 이런 분들은 주변에 꽤 많습니다. 특히 가족 구성원이 많은 경우!) 노트북부터 스마트폰까지 IT 기기 3개 모두 사용하는 경우 인터넷 어떻게 사용하시나요? 바로 유무선 인터넷 공유기!! 사실 집에 IP를 여러개 받을 필요가 없으니 유무선 인터넷 공유기에 대한 관심이 높습니다.
유무선 인터넷 공유기 제대로 알고 가자
인터넷에 연결하기 위해 각 PC가 고유의 IP 주소를 가지고 있어야 하는데요, 보통은 인터넷 서비스 업체를 통해 IP 주소를 부여받고 사용비를 내고 있습니다. 공유기는 멀티탭처럼 하나의 선으로 들어오는 IP주소를 기기별로 고유한 IP 주소를 할당해주는 것! 그럼 우리집 PC+노트북+TV+냉장고가 한꺼번에 돌아가듯 인터넷 접속도 동시에 할 수 있는 겁니다! 인터넷 서비스 업체가 제공하는 IP 주소를 공유기에 설정하고, 공유기에 각 PC를 연결하면, 각각의 PC, 노트북, 스마트폰에 고유한 IP 주소가 자동으로 할당되어 인터넷 동시 접속이 가능합니다.
공유기가 하는 역할이 궁금하다면~!

공유기의 역할은 간단합니다. 공인 IP 주소를 가상 IP 주소로 변환하거나, 그 반대로 변환해 주는 역할을 하는데요, 이를 네트워크 주소 변환(NAT, Network Address Translation)이라 합니다. 그래서 공유기와 연결된 PC를 보면 대부분 192.168.OOO.OOO 같은 가상 IP 주소를 찾을 수 있습니다. 가상 IP 주소는 공유기가 설치된 곳에서만 사용 가능한 주소입니다.
여기서 하나더~! 공유기는 네트워크 라인을 분배해주는 역할도 하구요, 유무선 공유기의 경우 와이파이까지 사용할 수 있는 사실~!(사실 이 부분이 가장 중요하죠^^) 가정에서 공유기를 활용할 때에는 대부분 서브 노트북의 출현이나 스마트폰 사용 활성화를 위한 경우가 대부분이니 말이죠. 하나 아쉬운 점이 있다면 무선랜은 유선랜에 비해 전송속도가 상대적으로 느리다는 것...
무선랜 설정해 보자!
무선으로 사용할 노트북을 공유기에 연결해봅니다. 공유기에 무선으로 연결하려면 ...
1. 노트북에서 무선연결 대상(SSID, Service Set IDentifier)을 선택해야 합니다. 2. 대부분의 공유기는 제품 이름을 SSID로 기본으로 설정하기에 노트북의 무선 랜을 켜고 무선 네트워크를 검색해 해당 SSID를 선택해 연결하면 됩니다. 3. 무선랜도 유선랜과 마찬가지로 192.168.OOO.OOO로 만들어지는 IP 주소가 할당됩니다.
SSID는 공유기 설정 페이지에서 원하는 이름으로 변경할 수도 있습니다. 공유기 설정 페이지는 주로 가상 IP 주소 대역의 맨 첫 번째 주소에 할당됩니다. 유무선으로 연결된 PC에 192.168.10.5라는 IP 주소가 설정됐다면, 공유기 설정 페이지는 192.168.10.1입니다. 우선, 설정 페이지에 접속했다면 가장 먼저 이 페이지에 대해 암호를 걸어두는 게 좋습니다. 누군가가 무선 랜으로 연결해 공유기에 접근할 수 있기 때문이죠.
무선 랜 암호는 필수!
무선랜을 사용하는 경우 가장 중요한 것은 네트워크 보안입니다. 사용하는 공유기에 아무나 접속한다는 것은 개인 PC로 접근이 가능한 상황이 발생할 수 있기에 사실 끔찍한 일이죠. 무선랜을 연결할 때에는 꼭 암호를 입력해야 하는 것~! 공유기 설정 페이지에서 무선랜 암호도 설정할 수 있습니다. 방식은 여러가지인데요.
<<가정에서 사용한다면>> 인증 수준은 개방/공유 모드, 암호화 방식은 WEP 정도가 적당합니다. 노트북이나 스마트폰에 접속할 때 항상 암호를 입력한다면 좀 귀찮을 수 있으니 미리 인증 암호를 저장하는 센스~! 암호 강도 수준은 WEP < WPA < WPA2 입니다.
무선랜 암호를 설정했다면 공유기 설정 페이지에도 로그인 암호를 걸어둡니다. 무선 랜 암호를 잊으셨다면 설정 페이지에서 새롭게 설정할 수 있습니다. 단 설정 페이지 로그인 암호를 잊을 경우에는 공유기 설정을 초기화해야 합니다.
유무선 인터넷 공유기 어떻게 고를까?
1. 무선랜 통신 규격 현재 최신 규격인 802.11n을 선택합니다. (최대 평균 100Mbps 속도) 한 단계 아래인 802.11g는 54Mbps 입니다. 단, 11n 규격의 통신 속도를 사용하려면 노트북 등의 무선 랜 어댑터가 11n 규격을 지원하는 지 체크하세요.
2. 안테나 수 1개 OR 2개 안정적으로 인터넷 사용을 위해서 안테나 수도 고려합니다. 일반 가정에서는 안테나가 2개면 충분할테고, 좀 넓은 공간이라면 3개가 적합할 것 같습니다.
3. 유선랜 포트 개수 체크 유선 랜 포트가 몇 개 인지도 확인하세요. (최근에는 대부분 4개를 제공하고 있습니다.) 혹시 유선 랜을 통해 내부 PC끼리 데이터를 전송하는 상황이 자주 연출된다면 기가비트(1Gbps, 1,000Mbps) 지원 제품을 선택하는 것이 유리합니다. (가격은 그만큼 비싸다는 사실, 가정에서는 100Mbps 일반 공유기도 충분합니다.)
4. 스마트폰을 자주 사용한다구요? 스마트폰을 자주 사용하는 분들은 WPS(Wi-Fi Protect Setup) 기능도 참고하세요. WPS는 버튼 하나로 무선 랜 설정을 더욱 쉽고 편리하게 해주는 기능입니다. * 주기적으로 업데이트 지원(펌웨어 등)이 가능한지도 확인해보세요~!
이렇게 유무선공유기에 대해서 알아봤습니다. HP에서 최근에 출시된 신제품을 예약하면 유무선공유기 ipTime N104i을 제공하고 있는데요, (HP 온라인 스토어 바로가기) 노트북 하나 구입하면서 인터넷 연결까지 손쉽게 가능해지니 괜찮은 아이템인 것 같습니다. PC, 노트북, 스마트폰 함께 사용하시는 분들이 인터넷 접속으로 고생하는 일이 없기 바랄게요~!
